Art, Science and Philosophy
Musing my way around the Takis Foundation – Research Center for the Art and the Sciences
A few years ago, I visited TAKIS’ Research Center for the Art and the Sciences on Gerovouno.
Driving up through the quiet neighborhood in Kamatero, the road suddenly stopped at a gate. The large gate was painted bright blue. Behind the gate, another world prevailed, a great contrast to the city as I saw it from above.
As I experienced the sculptures and then observed the city below, I wondered why we don’t build more beautiful cities, as TAKIS did behind the large blue gate.
Cities that are not only functional but also satisfy our needs and senses — sight, hearing, scent, all of them. Cities created with inspiration and love, just as the great sculptor Takis gave to his art and to KETE, his home on Gerovouno. Takis called it Holy Mountain.
Art, science, philosophy and a holy mountain.
It seems to me that many of our great elders are somewhere up high, on a mountain.
This year, 2025, marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of TAKIS.
