Dominic Leontas
Dominic (Kyriakos Leontas) was born in Keratsini, Piraeus, and lives in Korydallos. His interest in
photography began in adolescence, and at seventeen he acquired his first DSLR, which he still uses
today.
Seeking moments of spontaneous human presence, Dominic initially experimented with street photography in public spaces. In late 2022, he began documenting marches and public gatherings.
Through this engagement, he became more politically aware, shaping his understanding of photography—not as neutral documentation, but as a conscious stance toward events. His main goal was to avoid the aestheticization of demonstrations and conflicts.
The same engagement shaped his shift toward urban exploration photography. In abandoned urban spaces, he seeks to capture reality without romanticization or embellishment. He does not treat these places as remnants of the past, but as spaces that remain in use, quietly persistent. Although abandoned by their owners, they continue to be inhabited by people who often remain invisible to society.
Dominic is not interested in the aestheticization of decay or in the ruin as a romantic symbol. Instead, his focus lies on the parallel lives that unfold within the city and their shifting relationship to space.
For Dominic, “living abandonment is a social reality: a space may be abandoned in terms of ownership, but not in terms of humanity.” This contradiction determines the way in which he approaches and photographs it.
